BIRDIES FOR THE BRAVE
Birdies for the Brave is one of the primary elements of the philanthropic endeavors and mission of Caddy For A Cure. Birdies for the Brave is a nationwide program supported by the PGA TOUR that generates financial support for military homefront groups that directly serve military men, women and families lost or seriously injured in performance of their duty.
Since its inception, Birdies for the Brave has grown to include a variety of military outreach efforts, including Patriots’ Outpost military hospitality chalets and military celebrations held during tournaments; letter-writing campaigns for the troops; distribution of care packages to troops stationed abroad; awarding an honorary membership at each TPC for the benefit of a local wounded warrior; and a series of fundraising events conducted at the TOUR’s TPC Network of clubs nationwide and partner properties. This enables fans, club members, sponsors and the public the opportunity to participate in charity golf tournaments and other activities that directly benefit military men and women and their families, while at the same time play the same sensational golf courses where the world’s best golfers compete.
There are currently eight national military homefront groups supported by PGA TOUR players that benefit from Birdies for the Brave, including: Homes For Our Troops and Special Operations Warrior Foundation supported by Phil Mickelson; Wounded Warrior Project supported by TOUR players Nick Watney, Boo Weekley, & Jason Gore; Operation Homefront supported by TOUR player Corey Pavin; Navy SEAL Foundation supported by TOUR players Jerry Kelly, Frank Lickliter II & Vijay Singh; Military Warriors Support Foundation supported by TOUR players Ted Purdy & David Toms; The Green Beret Foundation supported by TOUR player Bubba Watson and United Through Reading supported by TOUR player Rory Sabbatini.
“In addition to the financial support Caddy For A Cure provides to Birdies for the Brave, the program also provides wounded warriors with opportunities to actually go “inside the ropes” with the public Caddy For A Cure winners and PGA TOUR players, escorting the group along the fairways and greens. We believe that PGA TOUR player Frank Lickliter III summed it up best when he said “these brave men and women loved golf before their accidents. Why wouldn’t they still love it now?”
Caddy For A Cure is committed to saying “thanks” both financially and emotionally to the warriors of Birdies for the Brave, offering them the chance to stand next to some of the greatest golfers in the world, providing inspiration to us all.
